Abstract

This study examines conceptual metaphors in fantasy literature, particularly in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. Drawing on Lakoff and Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory, the research analyzes how Tolkien employs systematic metaphorical mappings to construct meaning within fantastical narratives. Key metaphors include journey as life, light as good/darkness as evil, and power as vertical space. These metaphors function not merely as literary devices but as cognitive structures that shape reader comprehension and emotional engagement.
